Hi! I’m Jenni Avins, a Los Angeles-based freelance writer covering culture and lifestyle. My work has appeared in The New York Times, New York Magazine, The Cut, Quartz, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, Harper’s Bazaar, Vice, Saveur, and many more publications. I also fire off the occasional email newsletter from my Substack, Have a Good Day.
From 2014-2020 I was the lifestyle correspondent for Quartz, where I wrote longform stories—plus countless short ones—about topics including the burgeoning cannabis industry, lab-grown diamonds, and the business of personal transformation. Also at Quartz in 2016 I founded (and usually wrote) the Quartzy newsletter, a personal weekly email that reached tens of thousands of subscribers with tips, observations, recipes, and recommendations in the culture and lifestyle realms. I sent the final edition on June 19, 2020 and was floored by the responses I received.
After I graduated from UCSB and before I went to the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism I spent a few years working in fashion production—that is, working between designers and factories to get clothing made. My last job in fashion was managing knitwear production in Peru and Madagascar for Edun, a brand founded by Bono and Ali Hewson to make the supply chain part of the story. That’s still something I love to do.
